Large Pohutukawa Vase
October 25th, 2009
The Pohutukawa is the icon of a Kiwi summer, and is also known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree.
These vases are designed and carved by hand, and then cut-out while still in a wet form (’leather-hard’). After drying, they are fired and multiple coats of the various glazes are applied with a technique called ‘glaze-butting’.
With a glass insert this can still be a functional vase, or it may also be used as a candle holder.
