Pohutukawa Lamp
October 16th, 2009
The Pohutukawa is the icon of a Kiwi summer, and is also known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree.
These lamps are designed and carved by hand, and then the holes are pierced while still in a wet (’leather-hard’). After drying, they are fired and multiple coats of the various glazes are applied with a technique called ‘glaze-butting’. The silver edges of the leaves are picked out with a white gold overglaze.
This piece has an easily removable lamp fitting.
