Small Koru Bowl
November 23rd, 2009
The koru design is represented in many cultures and has a quality of new life, growth, adaptability… In NZ the koru can be found in the forests, with the many ferns, or on the shore, where the waves break…
This piece is designed and cut-out while wet (’leather-hard’), ensuring the design is clear on both the inside and out. Once tidied, dried and fired, multiple coats of glaze are applied.
This was a spur of the moment piece, and I’m so pleased with the results. It was not an easy piece to complete, as it is very thin, which made it precarious during the wet stage.
